Knowing ASL is definitely is an addition to ones multilingualism, but while at it our Lil Muslim readers should know the Signs for some basic Islamic terms too. So here are some let's learn them all !

Supplemental Reading to Helen Keller Story

As miraculous as Helen Keller's story is, there are MANY untold stories within hers. Infact knowing those actually open up completely new avenues and paths to understanding the struggles and triumphs of those who paved the way for education for deaf and blind children.

Each individual directly and indirectly had a role in what later came to be known to the world as The Miracle of Helen.

NOTE: I have not pre read all the books but intend to. I will update the read status as I read them :)

One of such individuals was :

Laura Bridgman

The fact of the matter is.......... without Laura Bridgman the miracle of Helen could not have happened.

1st Quarter Biography: Helen Keller & Louis Braille

The Lil Muslim Readers will start their thoughtful reading adventure with Biographies of two historical figures whose life and accomplishments became an eye opener for the world and inspiration for many.

Helen Keller & Louis Braille

This 2003 coin highlights an image of Helen Keller who accomplished
much despite being both deaf and blind

This beautiful 2009 Louis Braille Silver Dollar commemorates the 200th anniversary of the birth of Louis Braille, inventor of the Braille system, which is used by the blind to read and write.

Recommended Books

All reading levels are mere suggestions. Parents can read  the books to the kids if preferred. The point is to enjoy the reading together and have healthy discussions :)

Note:
 Who was Hellen Keller, is an excellent book in respect in offering much more details than other books on Helen Keller. But you may want to read pages 92 and 95 yourself  first as you may need to discuss them with your kids depending on their age and maturity level.





Advanced and Mature Readers

Some concepts may need  discussion to bring clarity in the readers mind

It is an interesting read with quite an array of topics that can be discussed in the light of Islam, bringing a better understanding of the hikmah (wisdom) and importance of our Deen. Example: religion, socialism,

If we can teach our children to draw out such lessons in whatever they come across in life, it would be a Blessing from Allah! May Allah help us achieve that Ameen.
